£40,000 - £45,000

Our client is seeking a Senior Ecologist to cover work around Hampshire & Berkshire. You will be working remotely from home. Clients will include Highways, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Infrastructure, and the Private Sector.

The ideal candidate must be able to work on many projects while assisting the existing bespoke team in a fast-paced Consultancy. Working alongside other team members, the role will require project management of Ecological / Environmental schemes for diverse clients, as well as some field work including ecological surveys, asset surveys, and ecological clerk of works. The position would be ideal for someone with a few years of industry experience.

 

Senior Ecologist Responsibilities

  • Senior Ecologists or Environmental Professionals with at least 4 years of experience in an ecological or environmental sector are needed to join the team
  • Technical environmental and ecological project leadership
  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation, planning conditions, and accompanying documentation, as well as assisting in the reduction of risks and delays.
  • Supervising contractors and ensuring compliance with licence requirements for endangered species and environmental protection measures.
  • Junior team members are mentored and trained.
  • Protected species surveys, extended phase 1 habitat/UKHabs surveys
  • Proposals for mitigation and habitat development are being developed.
  • Technical reports for planning submission from the Ecological Clerk of Work
  • Assessments of Biodiversity Net Gain
  • EIAs with an ecological component.

 

 

Experience Required:

  • Educated in a relevant scientific or environmental discipline
  • Understanding of ecology, legislation, survey methods, and the planning process
  • Extensive knowledge of ecological surveys and the environmental sector
  • Experience conducting ecological site surveys (protected species surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) / Phase 1 habitat surveys/UKHabs)
  • Level 2 Bat licence
  • Knowledge of how to use and analyse bat recording analysis software
  • Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Experience in project delivery in a commercially competitive context
  • Stakeholder Engagement (including Wildlife Trusts, Environmental Health Officers, Natural England, Heritage England, the Environment Agency, and Lead Local Flood Authorities)
  • Experience with fee proposals, project management, and client liaison.
  • CIEEM membership or equivalent
